Here's What We Can Help With...
Here's How It Works...

Private Consultation

Have questions? Bring them. We'll work through them together.

Private consultations are one-on-one conversations with someone who actually runs a sharpening business. This is the best option when you have specific questions that are difficult to answer with a general article or when you want to talk through a problem in real time.

You can ask about sharpening techniques, equipment, abrasives, shears, clipper blades, troubleshooting, pricing, workflow, customers, marketing, website issues, or the challenges you're currently running into in your own business. The important thing to understand: these are unguided consultations. You should come prepared with the questions or problems you want to discuss so we can make the most of your time.

Before your call, we recommend making a list of everything you'd like to cover and prioritizing the most important questions, along with planning for a way to take notes. If you have several unrelated topics, a longer session may be more useful than trying to squeeze everything into 30 minutes. Consultations are purchased in 30-minute increments; when you checkout, you just increase the quantity of 30-minute increments you need.

Not sure whether you need a consultation? Start with the free articles or look through the upcoming learning modules. If you still have questions afterward, a private consultation is always available.

Personalized Review

Instead of asking us a question about your business, let us look at the business itself. A Personalized Business Review is a deeper, behind-the-scenes evaluation of a specific area of your sharpening business. Rather than giving you general advice, we'll review the information you provide and identify opportunities, problems, weaknesses, and areas where you may be leaving money or customers on the table.

Depending on what you need, a review could include your website, Google Business Profile, SEO, advertising, pricing, services, customer acquisition, workflow, policies, competitors, or overall business structure. This is particularly useful when you know that something isn't working but aren't sure exactly what needs to change or the questions you need to ask.

Because every business is different, we don't use a one-size-fits-all price for reviews. You'll first submit a request telling us what you'd like reviewed and what you're trying to accomplish. We may ask for things such as:

  • Your website URL
  • Google Business Profile information
  • Current pricing or service lists
  • Advertising information or screenshots
  • Examples of marketing materials
  • Information about your current customers and service area
  • Your current workflow or business processes
  • Competitor examples
  • Specific problems or goals you want us to investigate

We'll review your request, determine the approximate amount of time needed, and give you an estimated scope and price before we begin the review. The more information you can provide, the more useful the review can be.

Don't have a website yet? That's okay, too. We can help you understand what your website needs to accomplish, what information you should include, and what to prioritize when building one from scratch. We can provide guidance and recommendations, although the review is not a website-building service.

Personalized reviews are different from a phone consultation because you are paying for dedicated time spent examining your business materials outside of a live call. If additional work would be useful beyond the agreed scope, we'll let you know before spending additional time.

Free Articles

We believe there is a lot of information that should simply be available to people who are interested in sharpening and running a sharpening business. Our public articles cover a variety of topics related to sharpening, equipment, tools, techniques, and the businesses built around them. They're a great starting point if you're trying to understand why something works the way it does or want to learn more about a particular topic before deciding what kind of help you need.

You'll find articles covering subjects such as shear sharpening, clipper blades, edge geometry, ridelines, micro-serration, grinding techniques, heat management, and other topics as we continue expanding the library. These articles are free and available to everyone. No consultation or purchase is required. We have two blogs, one for our shears and clipper blade equipment customers and one for our woodworking and industrial equipment customers.

They are also a good place to start before booking a consultation. You may find that an article answers your question completely, and if it doesn't, you'll have a better idea of what you actually need to ask.

Learning Modules

Go deeper. Learn a specific skill. Build your own sharpening knowledge.

We're working on something different from a traditional sharpening course. Instead of creating one enormous "How to Start a Sharpening Business" course and expecting everyone to work through the same material, our goal is to build a library of highly specific, practical learning modules based on the questions and problems sharpeners actually encounter.

This won't be a way to know everything about sharpening or business, but this will be about learning specific skills in great detail. The idea behind these modules is a deeper dive into specific topics to cover as many angles as possible. This means tips, tricks, and troubleshooting. We're aiming to answer all your questions on the topic, but if there are still unanswered questions, then a private phone consultation is always an option.

Some topics we're planning to start with include:
  • Understanding Sharpening Angles
  • Choosing the Right Grit
  • Ridelines
  • Tension & Alignment
  • Hollow Grinding
  • Troubleshooting Poor Cutting
  • Pricing Your Sharpening Services
  • Building Your Workflow
  • Customer Retention
  • Building a Sharpening Website
  • Sharpening specific SEO

Modules will be designed to stand on their own, allowing you to purchase and learn only the subjects that are relevant to you. You can join our waitlist and we would love to know what topics you are most interested in learning about!

This consulting is designed for:

• Existing sharpening businesses looking to improve their processes
• Sharpeners who already have some hands-on experience
• Repair businesses adding or expanding sharpening services
• Business owners looking to improve pricing, workflow, or profitability
• Sharpeners considering new equipment or expanding into additional tool types
• Businesses trying to improve their online presence or attract more customers
This isn't currently designed for:
• Someone who has never sharpened before
• Someone simply exploring whether sharpening might be a business they'd like to start
• Complete beginner sharpening instruction
We're happy to answer a quick question when we can. For more involved questions, consulting allows us to set aside dedicated time to give you a thoughtful answer rather than trying to squeeze a conversation into the middle of a busy shop day.
Stop struggling with business growth.
