Shipping your tools for sharpening doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little care on the front end, you can make sure your shears, clipper blades, and other equipment arrive safely and come back ready to work. Here’s how we recommend packing everything for mail-in sharpening.
Start with the order form
Before packing anything, make sure your order form is completed with all your contact information. This helps us quickly identify your tools and contact you if we have any questions during service.
Wrap each item individually
Every tool should be wrapped on its own to prevent damage in transit.
-
Shears, scissors, knives, and clipper blades should be wrapped in newspaper, paper towels, or protective padding.
-
The teeth on clipper blades and the tips of scissors and knives are fragile, so extra care here goes a long way.
-
If you’re using one of our mail-in kits or a padded case, that works great too.
Packing clippers and dryers
If you’re sending clippers or dryers:
-
Wrap them in multiple layers of paper or padding
-
The cord does not need to be wrapped with the unit
-
Make sure nothing hard or sharp can shift and hit another item
Box everything securely
Once each item is wrapped:
-
Place everything into a sturdy box
-
Add enough packing material (packing peanuts, crumpled paper, or similar) so nothing moves around
-
Close the box and gently shake it — if you hear rattling, add more padding
A quick tip: the post office offers free Priority Mail boxes, which are a solid option for shipping tools.
Consider insurance
If you’d like to insure your shipment, do so. While we take great care once your tools arrive, we can’t be responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit.
What to expect when your tools are returned
After sharpening or repair, your tools are packed carefully for the trip home:
-
Clipper blades are oiled, individually bagged, and heat-sealed in plastic
-
Scissors and knives are returned in their original case when possible, or protected in poly bags and wrapping
-
Clippers and dryers are wrapped in paper or bubble wrap to prevent damage
